Every move from the UK to Canada follows the same five stages, from getting a quote to completing customs clearance and arranging final delivery.

Next, complete the required documentation.
If you're using our Boxes and Bags Shipping service, we'll collect your shipment from your UK address. For MoveCube® customers, we'll deliver the container to your address for you to load, then transport it to our nearest UK depot, ready for shipping.

We ship to Canada
We coordinate the transport of your shipment from the UK to Canada, including export handling and international shipping. If your shipment is travelling by sea, you can monitor its progress using our online marine tracker.

Complete customs
You (the shipment owner) must be in Canada to complete customs clearance.
Plan to arrive before your shipment is ready for clearance. We'll email your customs documents and instructions before your shipment arrives, after which you'll need to attend your designated Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) office.
If your customs documents are incomplete, unclear or don't match your Inventory Packing List, we may need to contact you for clarification before we can arrange delivery.
Providing accurate documentation helps avoid unnecessary delays and any additional bonded warehouse storage charges that may apply while your shipment remains under customs control.

Receive your belongings
We provide two weeks of free storage in the UK. MoveCube® and Boxes and Bags shipments handled through Toronto or Vancouver also include up to two weeks of free storage in Canada after customs clearance. Longer storage can be arranged if required.
Once your destination charges have been paid, simply arrange a convenient delivery date with our team.
Do you offer storage?
Yes. If your moving dates don't line up perfectly, we offer secure storage in both the UK and Canada for eligible international removals.
Our MoveCube® and Boxes and Bags services include: two weeks' free storage in the UK, two weeks' free storage in Toronto and Vancouver after customs clearance and the option to extend your storage for an affordable fee if you need longer.
Storage can be added before your shipment is scheduled for loading.
Which removal option is right for your move to Canada?
The right service depends on how much you're shipping, the type of belongings you're moving and where you're moving in Canada. Whether you're sending a few boxes or relocating the contents of an entire home, we offer two international removal services: our MoveCube® for larger household moves and our Boxes and Bags Shipping service for smaller shipments.
If you're moving a larger home, there's no need to switch to a different service. Simply book multiple MoveCube® units to suit the amount you're shipping. You'll pack, load and seal each MoveCube® individually, and we'll collect, ship and deliver them together as part of the same straightforward door-to-door removals service.
The MoveCube®: Seven Seas Worldwide's international moving pod
The MoveCube® is a secure wooden moving pod designed to protect your belongings from collection in the UK through to delivery in Canada. Large enough to step inside, it gives you plenty of room to load and organise your belongings before we securely seal it for transport.
Available in Small, Medium and Large sizes, or as multiple units for larger moves, it's compact enough for us to transport on our collection vehicles and position outside your property on collection day.
On collection day, you'll load your MoveCube® within your allocated time slot (between 30 minutes and two hours, depending on the size and number of MoveCube® units booked). We'll then transport it to our nearest UK depot before it begins its onward journey to Canada.
What's included in your free MoveCube® Starter Pack?
Before your MoveCube® collection, we'll carry out a site inspection (either in person or online) and deliver your free Starter Pack.
It includes:
- Essential packing tools, such as parcel tape, a tape gun, a box cutter, a marker pen and a measuring tape.
- Three MoveCube® floor sheets (one for each MoveCube® size), allowing you to plan how your belongings will fit before collection.
- Numbered labels for customers using multiple MoveCubes®, helping customs officials identify the contents of each unit if an inspection is required.

Your shipment and destination
Shipment volume: the amount you ship determines how much space your belongings require, making it one of the biggest factors affecting the overall cost.
Service and shipping method: sea shipping is more affordable and has a lower environmental impact, while air shipping is quicker but more expensive.
Boxes and Bags shipments can be sent by sea or air, but MoveCube® shipments travel only by sea.
UK collection address: collecting your shipment from a location further away from one of our export hubs may increase transport costs.
Canadian delivery address: deliveries to major cities typically cost less than those to more remote parts of Canada, where longer inland transport distances can increase the overall price.
Additional costs to consider
Parking arrangements: if parking permits, loading bay access or other site-specific arrangements are required for our vehicle when collecting or delivering a MoveCube®, you'll need to arrange and pay for them.
Storage: all eligible international moves include two weeks of free storage in the UK.
Shipments handled through our Toronto and Vancouver depots also include up to two weeks of free storage in Canada after customs clearance.
Before clearance, goods are held under bonded warehouse procedures, and storage charges may apply if customs clearance is delayed.
Insurance and packing materials: optional insurance and additional packing supplies, such as boxes, bubble wrap and parcel tape, will increase the overall cost.
Documentation and prohibited goods: inaccurate documentation or the shipment of prohibited items can lead to delays and additional charges.

Destination charges: these apply to all international shipments arriving in Canada, regardless of who you ship with. They cover services such as port handling, customs inspections and gate fees.
Some removal companies exclude these costs from their initial quotes, which can lead to unexpected charges later.

Don't have a destination address?
You'll need to provide a destination address in Canada so we can generate an accurate shipping quote and prepare your shipment for Canadian customs clearance. Haven't secured a permanent home yet? Don't worry.
In most cases, you can provide the address where you expect your shipment to be delivered, such as your temporary accommodation or, if available, a friend's or family member's address near your intended destination. Should your delivery address change after your shipment arrives in Canada, additional charges may apply, particularly if the new address is in a different city or province.

You don't need to pay the full cost of your international move upfront. In most cases, international removals are paid for in three instalments spread across your move.
Here's how it works:
- When you book - pay a security deposit. This isn't an additional fee; it's deducted from your total shipping and transportation costs.
- After collection – once we've collected your shipment and you've completed your online documentation, you'll pay the remaining shipping and transportation balance.
- Before final delivery – once your shipment reaches Canada, we'll contact you to arrange payment of any applicable destination charges.

How long does shipping to Canada from the UK take?
Sea removals from the UK to Canada take approximately 99 days. Your quote will include an estimated transit time, which is the time your shipment spends travelling between the UK and Canada.
Transit time is not the same as your final delivery time. It doesn't usually include export processing before departure, destination handling after arrival, Canadian customs clearance or arranging delivery to your new home.
Transit times are estimates rather than guarantees and can be affected by factors such as shipping schedules, port operations, weather, peak seasonal demand and customs processing. We'll arrange your delivery once your shipment has been released by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and you've agreed on a suitable delivery date.
What route do shipments take from the UK to Canada?
Our UK-to-Canada shipments typically depart from Liverpool, but the exact route may vary based on shipping line availability and costs at the time of booking.
We usually ship via MSC, though we may use an alternative carrier when it offers better availability or value. As a result, some shipments may depart from another UK port, such as London Gateway.

How do I clear customs when moving to Canada?
To receive your belongings in Canada, you'll need to complete customs clearance in person at a designated Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) office.
Around one to two weeks before your shipment reaches Canada, we'll email your customs clearance instructions, shipping documents and the details of the CBSA office you'll need to attend.
Your assigned office is linked to the bonded warehouse handling your shipment and may not be the one closest to your home.

How the Canadian customs process works
1. We'll contact you when your shipment is ready for customs clearance and send you the documents and instructions you'll need.
2. Prepare your paperwork, including any customs forms and supporting documents listed in your arrival instructions.
3. Attend your assigned CBSA office to complete customs clearance in person.
Before travelling, our team recommends checking the office's latest opening hours, as these can change.
A border services officer will review your paperwork and advise whether any duties or taxes apply.
4. Send your authorised customs documents to Seven Seas Worldwide.
Email a clear, high-quality scan (not a photograph) of your stamped documents to caclearance@sevenseasworldwide.com.
If you're based in Toronto and your shipment will be delivered to a Toronto address, do not email your customs documents.

What is an Inventory Packing List?
Canadian customs uses your Inventory Packing List to verify the contents of your shipment. It should accurately describe everything you're importing.
Our team recommends completing your Inventory Packing List as you pack, rather than waiting until everything has been sealed.
Keeping it up to date is much easier than trying to remember what went into each box afterwards.
Canada customs declaration form sample
For many people moving permanently to Canada, completing the BSF186 correctly is one of the most important steps in importing household belongings without paying unnecessary duties.
Importing personal belongings tax-free: the BSF186 form
Many customers moving permanently to Canada can import their used household effects and personal belongings without paying customs duties, provided they meet the Canada Border Services Agency's (CBSA) eligibility requirements.
This usually includes new permanent residents (settlers) and many former Canadian residents returning after living abroad.
Eligible customers use the BSF186 Personal Effects Accounting Document (formerly the B4 form) to declare these belongings. If you need to list additional items or goods arriving separately, you'll also complete the accompanying BSF186A continuation sheet.
Eligibility depends on factors including:
- Your immigration or residency status,
- How long you have lived outside Canada,
- Whether your belongings were owned, possessed and used before your move,
- Whether you've correctly declared any goods arriving later.
Your BSF186 should match the Inventory Packing List for your shipment. Brand-new belongings are generally subject to duties or taxes, depending on your circumstances and CBSA's assessment.

On collection day:
- Have everything packed before the vehicle arrives.
- We’ll text you with an estimated arrival time before collection.
- Ask friends or family to help if needed.
- Move your packed belongings as close as possible to your property's entrance (or to the lobby if you live in an apartment building) before we arrive.
If you're using our MoveCube® service:
- Keep the route between your property and the MoveCube® clear.
- Our driver will provide a trolley and practical guidance, but cannot enter your property or load the MoveCube®.
- You'll be responsible for loading and unloading the MoveCube® within your allocated time slots, which depend on the size and number of MoveCube® units you've booked.
Avoid collection day delays
Based on our experience, the most common reasons collections can't go ahead as planned are:
- Belongings aren't fully packed when our team arrives;
- Someone isn't available at the collection address;
- The MoveCube® can't be positioned safely because of parked vehicles or restricted access;
- Required parking permits haven't been arranged;
- Prohibited items are discovered during collection.
Before delivery in Canada:
- Check that your destination address is correct.
- Let us know about any parking restrictions.
- Ensure someone is available to receive your shipment.
Top tip
If you're shipping more than one MoveCube®, number each one exactly as shown on your Inventory Packing List. Customs officers use these numbers to identify the contents of each unit. If they don't match, your shipment may require a full inspection, which can result in delays and additional charges.
Do I need insurance for my move to Canada?
International shipments pass through multiple stages of handling and transport before reaching their destination. For that reason, our logistics team recommends choosing one of our insurance options.
Basic Insurance provides cover for the loss of your whole shipment or MoveCube®. For services other than MoveCube®, it also covers the loss of individual boxes.
Premier Insurance includes Basic Insurance, along with cover against theft or loss of contents and damage.

Restricted and prohibited goods for Canada
Before packing your belongings, it's important to check that everything in your shipment complies with both Seven Seas Worldwide's shipping requirements and Canadian import regulations.
Some items are prohibited and can't be shipped, while others are restricted, meaning they may be accepted only under certain conditions or may require additional documentation.
Checking your items before packing is the easiest way to avoid delays, additional costs or refused shipments.
What you can't ship
The following are examples of items that are prohibited from international household shipments and should not be packed in your shipment.
- Food, beverages, and perishable items like sauces.
- Flammable liquids, including petrol, diesel and lighter fuel.
- Gas cylinders, camping gas and other pressurised containers.
- Hazardous chemicals, corrosive substances and toxic materials.
- Firearms, ammunition and explosives.
- Radioactive materials.
- Illegal drugs and narcotics.
- Counterfeit or pirated goods.
Items that may be restricted
Some everyday household items may still be shipped, but restrictions can apply depending on the shipping method or Canadian import requirements, such as:
- Batteries and electronics (e.g. power banks, laptops and battery-powered devices).
- Aerosols and household products (e.g. spray cans, paint and cleaning products).
- Medicines (including prescription medication).
- Plants, seeds and soil.
- Alcohol and vaping products.
Not everything can be shipped internationally. Knowing the difference between prohibited and restricted items helps keep your move on track.

Yes. Most household electrical appliances can be shipped to Canada as part of your household belongings.
However, Canada uses Type A and Type B plugs with a 120-volt electrical supply, while the UK uses Type G plugs and a 230-volt electrical supply. This means many UK appliances will need a plug adaptor, while some high-powered appliances may require a voltage converter or may not be suitable for use in Canada.
A plug adaptor changes the shape of the plug but doesn't convert the voltage. Appliances designed to operate only at 230 volts may be damaged or unsafe to use on Canada's 120-volt electrical supply without a suitable voltage converter. Our shipping team recommends checking whether your appliances are compatible with Canada's electrical system before you move.
International transport regulations also restrict how lithium batteries can be shipped. Devices with built-in lithium batteries can often be transported by sea, but loose lithium batteries, power banks and some high-capacity batteries are restricted.

Yes. Before collection, you’ll need to prepare your bicycle by removing the pedals, thoroughly cleaning it, and removing any accessories, such as lights, water bottles, or panniers.
We then collect your bike directly from your door, transport it to our nearest depot and pack it into one of our specialist bicycle shipping boxes before it’s sent to Canada.
Yes. Guitars and other musical instruments can be shipped to Canada as part of your international move.
Before collection, we recommend packing your instrument in a hard case for the best protection. If you only have a soft case, wrap it in several layers of bubble wrap.
