Please note that a wedding trousseau, also known as a bridal trousseau, is a collection of possessions used by a bride before, during, and after a wedding, such as clothing, jewellery, linen, household items, and so on.

If you fail to submit a C-5360 or C-5360-B on arrival in Japan, you must send a petition letter to Japanese Customs.

Inheritance goods are liable for customs duty if they have not been in the shipment’s owner’s use before arrival in Japan.

All brand-new items whose total value is less than JPY200,000 (around USD1,293) may be imported duty-free.

Receipts are required for:

  • New furniture, presents and souvenirs.
  • Machines, appliances and equipment.
  • Works of art and antiques.

Works of art and antiques for personal use may be imported duty-free if they are part of a used household’s goods, they are over 100 years old (with a certificate of proof), and if you have owned them for over a year and do not intend to resale them.
