Important update: shipping delays in and out of Canada

If you plan to move belongings to or from Canada, please be aware that the country's ports are experiencing delays, slowing the movement of shipments leaving and entering.

The main challenges impacting the import and export of belongings to and from Canada are:

  • Fewer ships: due to changes in global trade, especially new tariffs, fewer container ships are sailing to Canada, and their schedules have become less predictable.
  • Busier ports: many major Canadian ports, such as Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Montreal, and Halifax, are experiencing congestion, with containers taking longer to load and move due to rail delays, equipment shortages, and bad weather.
  • Lack of equipment: there's a shortage of empty containers in Canada, with many stuck overseas or in the US, making it harder to get shipments moving on time.
  • Railway delays: Canada's rail network is under pressure, which is slowing down inland transport. Seasonal issues like floods, snowstorms, and wildfires are making things worse.

More information about the expected delays

Although delays may continue for a little while, here's a quick timeline of how we expect things to improve over the following months:

  • Now – July: space is tight and delays may happen, but things should start improving by the end of the month.
  • August – September: shipping schedules should become more reliable, and demand is expected to ease.
  • September – November: exporting from Canada should become smoother, with better availability.
  • December – January 2026: we expect a more balanced and steady flow of shipments. However, weather and rail issues may still cause occasional delays.

We understand how frustrating delays can be, and we're doing everything possible to minimise disruption. Our team is monitoring the situation closely, and we recommend checking your Seven Seas Worldwide online account regularly for updates.
