How to import personal effects to Vietnam

All imports, including temporary imports, are subject to physical inspection and customs duties or taxes, except diplomatic shipments.

Duties are based on tariffs provided by the Vietnam Ministry of Finance.

You can only import one air shipment, and it must arrive within 30 days of your entry into the country.

Arrival declaration card:

  • You must complete an arrival declaration card at the airport, and have it signed and stamped by customs.
  • When asked "Any unaccompanied baggage?", answer "Y".
  • You must declare either 1 sea or 1 air shipment per card.
  • A completed arrival declaration card is required for customs clearance and will save you VND 5,000,000 in taxes/duties (approx. USD193/GBP146/EUR173).

Documents we provide on your behalf to Vietnam customs:

  • An Air Waybill (AWB)
  • Your inventory/packing list (in English)
  • Copies of your passport & visa
  • Your Vietnam work permit

Documents your employer in Vietnam must provide:
